Freight & Insurance Approx Price Calculator

Estimate your product's freight and insurance costs based on international shipping standards during price negotiations with your supplier.
Rquest "Gross Weight of products packed in a box or pallet", "Dimensions of Box or pallet(length, width, and height in cm)" and " invoice cost for insurance purposes " Using this information, you can estimate the approximate freight and insurance costs for your order.

How this calculator works:
  • User enters product details including weight and dimensions.
  • Freight cost is estimated based on origin country and shipping method.
  • Volumetric weight is calculated using the formula: (L × W × H) / 5000 for air and courier, /6000 for sea.
  • Actual or volumetric weight (whichever is higher) is used to calculate base freight cost.
  • Insurance cost = Declared value × Insurance rate (%)
  • Total cost = Freight + Insurance, converted to the selected currency.
  • Estimated delivery time is shown based on the shipping method:
    • Air: 5–10 days
    • Sea: 25–40 days
    • Courier: 3–7 days

Total Port & Clearance Charges Calculator

Estimate clearance cost for your import based on FCL or LCL modes, standard port rates, and destination countries.

FAQs – Port & Clearance Charges

The total estimate includes base port handling, clearance, customs, and any additional charges like warehousing, documentation, or special inspection. Rates differ by shipping mode and destination.

For LCL (Less than Container Load), we use the higher of the gross weight or volumetric (CBM) weight. It is then multiplied by a destination-specific average rate (USD per ton or CBM), plus any extra charges.

For FCL (Full Container Load), you select a standard container size (20ft, 40ft, or 40ft High Cube). Each destination has an estimated handling/clearance rate for that container type. Total charges = base container rate + additional charges (if any).

CBM (Cubic Meter) is the actual volume. Volumetric Weight is used when packages are lightweight but large in size. It is calculated as: (Length × Width × Height) cm / 5000. Our calculator lets you enter either CBM or volumetric weight.

No. These are approximate average market rates from major ports for general goods as of 2025. Actual charges may vary depending on the nature of the cargo, local taxes, documentation, inspection fees, and seasonal surcharges.

How Pricing Calculations Work

  • Product Cost : The base price of a single product. This should include:
    • Factory or wholesale cost
    • Pro-rated share of bulk purchase costs (e.g., if 100 units cost $500, base cost is $5)
    • All associated expenses incurred from product procurement to final delivery at the warehouse Internationally(e.g., freight, insurance, customs, duties, clearance — divided by Quantity)
    • All associated expenses incurred from product procurement to final delivery at the warehouse Locally (e.g., travelling, food, hoteling, booking etc — divided by Quantity)
  • Packaging : The cost per unit for packaging. This includes:
    • Product boxing/wrapping
    • Printing or branding (e.g., logo stickers, labels, sleeves)
    • Any inserts or manuals included in the product
  • Advertisement : Your expected ad spend **per product**. Divide your total ad budget by the number of units you plan to sell. Includes:
    • Facebook/Instagram paid promotions
    • Google Shopping or Search ads
    • Marketplace ad boosts
  • Shipping : This covers **logistics costs per product** from warehouse to customer. You can include:
    • Courier service charges
    • Marketplace shipping label fees
    • Handling costs if any
  • Platform Fee : Commission or processing fees charged by the platform you sell on. This varies by platform:
    • Amazon: Typically 8%–15% referral fee + possible FBA storage/shipping fees
    • Shopify: Monthly plan + 2.0% transaction fee (if not using Shopify Payments)
    • Daraz: 5%–15% depending on category
    • AliExpress: Approx. 5%–8% commission fee based on product category
Note: Some platforms also charge fixed per-order fees or processing fees on returns/refunds.
  • Tax : Government taxes such as GST/VAT that you need to add to the final price. This depends on:
    • Your country or state’s tax laws
    • Whether you or the platform handles tax collection
  • Profit Margin : The amount you want to earn **per product** after covering all costs. Expressed as a percentage of total cost. You can use:
    • 5–10% for competitive markets
    • 15–30% for custom/niche products
    • Higher if you're a unique seller or offering premium quality

Note: This calculator accurately sums up all direct and indirect per-unit costs, adjusts for platform fees and taxes, and applies your desired profit margin to recommend a realistic and profitable selling price. This ensures you do not underprice or overprice your product.

  • Total Product Cost (FOB/Ex-Factory): This is the total cost of the goods at the source—usually at the factory or supplier level. It can be listed as FOB (Free on Board) or Ex-Factory.
👉 FOB means the seller pays for transportation of the goods to the port of shipment, plus loading costs.
👉 Ex-Factory means the buyer bears all costs from the seller's warehouse onwards.
  • Freight & Insurance: This includes the international shipping cost (via sea or air cargo) and insurance fees for transporting goods from the origin country to your destination port.
  • Custom Duty (%): Customs duty is a government-imposed tariff on imported goods. It's calculated on the base cost and varies depending on the product's HS Code and destination country.
📄 Check WTO Tariff Data | Canada | Pakistan FBR Tariff | USA HS Codes
  • Port & Clearance Charges: Charges incurred at the port of arrival. These may include:
    • Terminal Handling Charges (THC)
    • Bill of Lading fees
    • Customs Broker Service fees
    • Inspection or demurrage costs
These vary by port and logistics provider.
🌐 Example reference: Flexport on Port Charges
  • Import Tax (%): Also called Value Added Tax (VAT), Sales Tax, or GST depending on the country.
It's calculated on the subtotal of the base cost + customs duty.
🔗 Examples: UK VAT, Pakistan GST, US Import Tax
  • In-Person Sourcing Costs: If you travel to source the product, include expenses such as international airfare, hotel stays, food, taxi rides, interpreters, and other business travel costs.
This ensures your total sourcing expenditure is reflected accurately in your product’s landed cost.
  • Base Cost: This is the sum of:
    • Product Cost (FOB or Ex-Factory)
    • + Freight & Insurance
    • + In-Person Sourcing Costs

This becomes the foundation for further import calculations.
  • Total Landed Cost: This is your final cost for getting the goods from the supplier to your warehouse.
Landed Cost = Base Cost + Custom Duty + Import Tax + Port & Clearance Charges
This total is essential for determining your minimum profitable selling price.

Note: The Import Cost Calculator is designed to help you assess your full landed cost when importing goods. By understanding all components, you can better estimate profit margins, optimize sourcing, and avoid under-pricing your products.

    • Example: 1000 + 500 + 200 = 1700/- Currency
  • Overhead Cost Per Product:
The total extra cost is divided by the total quantity to determine the per-unit overhead.
    • Formula: Overhead per Unit = Total Extra Cost ÷ Quantity
    • Example: 1700 ÷ 100 = 17/- Currency
  • Final Cost Per Product:
This is the final price per unit including its base cost and share of all overheads.
